Capstone 2025

Every little girl needs a dollhouse. Welcome to mine! This is the dollhouse that I played with as a little girl. Everywhere my family lived from Turkey to Norway and all the way to Minnesota this dollhouse moved with us. Back then the house was just bare wood, no walls, to color, just pure imagination. I like to think what I have created now is what I envisioned it would look like when I was younger. During the construction process I had so much fun thinking back on the games I played with this house and how I loved putting different furniture elements in and changing the order of the layout and design. Some of the pieces in the dollhouse are originals from the old dollhouse and some are new pieces that I collected and found for this capstone remodeling.

A family tradition of mine is quilting. All of my grandmas quilted and my mom has always been handy with a sewing machine. The pattern on the roof of the house is a log cabin quilt pattern that my grandmother used quite often. Certain smaller elements of this work are very personalized to me. For example the elephant in the library is from my elephant phase that I went through when I was ten. The tiniest details are my favorite and I loved designing each room with a different personality in mind for the users of the room. I encourage you to look deeper into the house and think about what traditions run in your family, whether it be cooking, painting, reading, and maybe even quilting. Who do you think lives in this house? Is it you, and your family, dolls, or is it a mythical creature? I hope that looking at my dollhouse stitches together the pieces of your childhood that have been forgotten.
